IN A solemn ceremony presided over by Rev. Monsignor Higinio Velarde, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Jaro, 198 grade school and high school students of Ateneo de Iloilo-SMCS have officially confirmed their faith in the church.
The confirmation rite was held late morning of Saturday, February 18, at the Chusuey Gymnasium in San Rafael, Mandurriao, Iloilo City, in the presence of about 800 parents, godfathers, godmothers, relatives, teachers, administrators, and friends of the confirmands. There were 66 high school confirmands while there were 132 from the grade school.
Msgr. Velarde, a doctor of Canon Law, stressed to the confirmands, “this rite signifies the public affirmation of your covenant made in baptism and the confirmation of your faith; at the same time, the congregation prays that each confirmand will receive the blessing of the Holy Spirit and the strengthening of his or her faith.”
“WE ARE almost ready for the D-Day,” thus declared by PTA Edgar Leyson for this year’s Family Day set Saturday, February 7, at the Ateneo de Iloilo-SMCS High School site at San Rafael, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

“BULLYING is when an individual or group repeatedly misuse power to target another individual or group to intentionally threaten or harm them.”
This was intimated by developmental and behavioral pediatrician Dr. Celina Cordero-Gellada before scores of parents and guardians of Ateneo de Iloilo-Santa Maria Catholic School High School Department Saturday morning, January 31, at the school’s Multipurpose Room.
Themed “Bully-Proof Your Kids,” the Parent-Teacher Association-initiated conference was also participated in by the officers of the Student Council who happen to have an on-going anti-bullying campaign called R2BR or the “right to be respected.” The PTA partnered with the school’s Guidance Office led by counselor Cecilia Japitana who facilitated the event.

A HUNDRED families of indigenous people from Sitio Kati-Kati in Brgy. San Miguel, Guimaras, received grocery packs from the Ateneo de Iloilo High School-SMCS Parents-Teachers Association (ADI-SMCS HS-PTA) last December 18, 2014.
Helped by the school’s Campus Ministry and Social Involvement (CMSI) Office, the officers of the PTA Executive Committee (Execom) and the school administrators personally handed over the goods collected from the contribution of parents and students during the Advent days in December.
A grocery pack includes: rice (from Grade 7), canned foods (from Grade 8), energy drink, coffee, and juice packs (from Grade 9), and biscuits and cookies (from Grade 10). A box of apples, donated by parent Perlie Mac, and some snack food were also distributed by the volunteer-parents to the scores of kids who were in attendance during the morning gift-giving.
