Message from the President

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

Recently, we received reports of kidnapping attempts in Iloilo. Most of these attempts targeted students outside their school premises. With all these reports, it is best for us to be proactive in ensuring that this will not happen inside and outside our own school yard.

While ADI-SMCS management will try its best to intensify our security within the campus, your children might still be exposed to danger if left unsupervised by a trusted adult.

We would like to remind you to please take extra precautions especially during dismissal. Please instruct your wards to be extra careful in dealing with strangers who might be posing as an acquaintance, substitute 'sundo', survey interviewers, and the like.  Please immediately report to the nearest security officer within the vicinity in case you encounter suspicious interaction with a stranger inside and outside the school.

Corollary to this , i also received reports that some have not complied with the car pass policy. I would like to reiterate that the car pass should be visibly pasted on the car's windshield. Your full cooperation will help us make our campus safe and secure.

Sincerely,

Fr. Joseph Y. Haw,SJ

School President

Persons for and with others

(Delivered by Albert Bofill, SHS student of Ateneo de Iloilo-SMCS Section 12 Servire, during the weekly SHS Flag Rites held in the school gymnasium, July 10, 2017)

To offer a hand to those in need. To compassionately aid all living things. To show empathy and mercy. Servire, not just selfless service but service that is filled with compassion.

To Father Joseph Haw of the Society of Jesus, our School president, Dr. Herman Lagon, our associate principal, Maam Rosario Dordas, Director for Formation, to the faculty and staff, and to my fellow Ateneans, good morning.

Service. Time and time again we have encountered, or at the very least, have been reminded regarding this concept. May it be through a particular section’s name, the huge kneeling statue in front of Nong Bernard’s impenetrable fortress, or maybe through the beautiful voices of my ever-so talented classmates who just sang the “Prayer for Generosity.” It is clear. There’s no need for an argument. You, you, and even you at the back. We are all no strangers to service.

Ateneo stands up for life; decries EJKs, death penalty

Hundreds of students and faculty of Ateneo de Iloilo-Santa Maria Catholic School wore white shirts and lit their candles Friday night, February 24, to show support to the campaign for life, and to demonstrate opposition to death penalty, extrajudicial killings (EJKs), and other forms of social injustice.

The prayer vigil, aptly held at the eve of the 31st year commemoration of EDSA Revolution, was organized by the High School Student Council. It started in the school gym with a lecture-discussion on human rights facilitated in by representatives from Amnesty International, the world’s biggest human rights organization. This was followed by a prayer service, led by the school chaplain Fr. Ruben Orbeta, SJ, that culminated through rosary prayer march, candle lighting rites and community singing at the school rotunda grounds in front of the statue of St. Ignatius of Loyola.

“Today we hold our lighted candles and pray that God will set our hearts on fire to stand for light, to stand for the truth, to stand for justice, and to stand for life,” Fr. Orbeta said, adding, “there is in our land a cry for vengeance and a move to fill up death rows and kill offenders, but disguised as a call for justice; let true and lasting justice spring forth, and let peace prevail.”
